The Project

Our task is to design a block at a 3x3x3 size consisting of at lesast five peaces. This cube must be able to fit together. It had to be comprised of 27- 3/4 in cubes. There had to be 5 parts to the cube. The cube had to have at least 1- 4 piece cube, 1- 5 piece cube., and 1- 6 piece cube.  The parts could also not be duplicated.

Drafts

To come up with the ideas for the different pieces we made blocks at varying sizes and a varying number of pieces. Below are the drafts that we used to make the puzzle cubs.

Design

The design shown in the black and white photo is all 10 of the parts that make up the 2 blocks. These parts are labeled in the order in which they are assembled. The second picture shows both blocks in a front and back isometric view also showing where the parts are located by the color.

Creation

The creation of the cube took some time as we had to find a way for the 27 cubes to equal 5 pieces and fit together. The final products were decided in a matter of 2 class days.

Assembling

The block is assembled using just its ability to fit together.

The Final Product

The final product as seen below is constructed on inventor and is a model of block number 1 on the drawings above. The block was then placed in a premade template that has all of the parts, multiviews, and assemblies. That documet can be opened below. I also have attatched the individual parts into the link below.
