Interlocking Table

The Project

Our task was to create a table for a univerity coffee shop. The table had to be around $200 in cost and had to seat at least 2 adults

Target Buyer

Our target buyers are coffee shops and other restaurants similar. The outlets will give the customers somewhere to plug in their devices when they stop into the restaurant. Another thing we added to make it more user friendly is a small lip around the edge so that the customer can rest their arms on it when typing and so cups won’t be knocked off as easy. The tables will be stable because of the steel legs that are used to hold it up.

Our Design

Our design was to build a normal sized table at 5 feet long and 30" wide. This makes the table easily able to fit the 2 adults it asks for. To fit the cost we had to change the legs from steel to aluminum. We also used aluminum for the box on the center where electricity is run to. Aluminum sheeting is also used for the running bars underneath that runs the cords to the wall. We put outlets around the center so that the customers could hook up their electronic devices.

Cost

  • The boards cost $27.09 each. They are dimensioned at 2” x 10” x 6’. We will need 3 of these boards. That equals $81.27 for all the wood.

  • For the legs we decided to go with aluminum so that we could stay within the price parameters. We needed 5’ 9” worth of aluminum framing. The weight was placed at 2.93lbs. and priced at $15.75.

  • The outlets surrounding the inner panel costs $4.29 each and we needed 12 to equal $51.48

  • For the center aluminum box we need a 20” by 7” sheet of aluminum which costs $11.20 a piece and we need 2 making it cost $22.40.

  • For the final parts of the table we need aluminum sheets for both the running bars and the sides of the box. The cost would be $24.00 for the 20” by 20” sheet.

  • The final thing we need is an extension cord that will be run through the running bars and into the electric box and connect to the wall. The cost is $2.99.

The total cost comes out to be $197.89 for the table.
